Ohio State Council of Machinists Endorses Ted Strickland for Governor of Ohio
12/2/2001
The Ohio State Council of Machinists endorsed Ohio gubernatorial candidate Congressman Ted Strickland this morning at the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Eastern Territory regional office near Cincinnati.

“Ted will restore dignity and integrity back to the State Capitol,” said Lynn Tucker, general vice president of the Eastern Territory, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. “Ted really understands Ohio’s working people. Under his direction we can expect to recapture jobs for Ohio’s working women and men.”

“I am truly honored to receive the support and endorsement of the State Council of Machinists. The members of this union are among the hardest working men and women in the state,” Strickland said. “If elected governor, I pledge to move our state forward for all working families. Together, we can rebuild our economy, revitalize our state’s education system and restore integrity to our state government.”

“Ted has always been well-received by the working men and women who he represents,” said Jim Smith, political director of the Eastern Territory. “He’s forthright and straight-forward – the kind of leadership Ohio desperately needs. Ted will make a big difference in Ohio. I believe that he will bring integrity and honesty back to the state.”

The Ohio State Council of Machinists represents more than 25,000 members in Ohio. More than 97,000 Ohio workers and retirees are represented by the unions that have thus far endorsed Strickland for Governor.

“Change is driven by ideas from people who stand on the principle of fairness. Ted is that individual who stands for fairness,” Tucker added. “Today more than ever we need a leader like Ted who will work to restructure, rebuild and prepare our communities for the future.”

Other labor organizations that have endorsed Strickland include the Western Reserve Building and Construction Trades Council; Ohio Laborers’ District Council; Tri-County Building Trades Council; Ohio’s United Mine Workers; Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council; United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers; International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT); United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1099; and Laborers Local 310 in Cleveland.
