House Passes Employee Free Choice Act
3/7/2007
March 6, 2007 – The House last week passed the Employee Free Choice Act by a vote of 241-185. Thirteen Republicans joined 228 Democrats in voting for the bill.

The Employee Free Choice Act is one of the most important pieces of legislation for working families in years. It would enable workers to bargain for better wages, benefits and working conditions by restoring their rights to form unions.

"We all know that workers in the U.S. are among the most productive workers in the world. Yet for far too long, they have not been reaping the benefits of their hard work," said Miller, the chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee.
"There are a lot of explanations for the growing inequality in our economy. But perhaps the most significant explanation is that workers' rights to join together and bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions have been severely undermined. To strengthen America's middle class, we have got to restore these rights."
